I Don't Listen To Radiohead.
Now usually, upon hearing a band called 'Scumbag Philosopher' (formerly known as 'Fuck Dress') the common citadel would casually remark "oh dear" and proceed with their hard-working lives, vowing to never let their offspring near drafty sixth-form common rooms, even if that meant eternal membership to proletarianism. The scent of student-smugness and freshly sprung body hair can prove far too much for anyone to digest. Especially those who've managed to overcome the biological necessity of puberty or for anyone who's stepped outside the closed realm of higher-education. Such sixth-form angst and amateur intellect can be quite amusing aged 16. However from the mind of a balding, middleclass male, in Berghaus attire, it measures as nothing more than a deformed self-parody of past youthfulness.
In their own terms 'aspergic' Scumbag Philosopher's second single 'God Is Dead So I Listen To Radiohead' (re-released from their days as 'Fuck Dress') is supposed to be one of those post-modern har-har records. A satire of the modern hipster: a plausible outset for a song. But when brandished by this middle-aged Norfolk quartet, aesthetically resembling ex-Lib-Dem supporting squatters, it quickly becomes a contradictory mess.
A catchy riff and the sometime stampeding sound of drums is the only redemptive feature of this single. It does get stuck in your head, but that isn't necessarily a good thing. A pretentious record attacking pretentious people, the old pretension versus the new, and all things considered an entirely useless, unfunny record. This record might be big but it definitely isn't clever. Then again maybe hypocrisy just ain't my thing? Scrap this terrible single and go for their self-titled first.
