Surf-Garage with scuzzed twist

Margate quartet Two Wounded Birds, formed in 2008 and with a host of influences under their belts, some more apparent than others; they use these and add them to the energetic raw sound they already have.

Their sound sits in between early Ramones with a modern day Beach Boys twist; think 1960s surf movies and you've hit the nail on the head. The Drums, who have already had the band open for them on their UK tour, are also a slight comparison but shockingly, unlike fellow Moshi Moshi label mates they're American and not fresh off the Kent shoreline.

Their first track 'All We Wanna Do' is easily radio friendly, it's cheery, sunny, surfy sounding but in an original way. In fact considering Margate is a seaside town, they should probably be awarded the most credit for doing this genre of music than anyone else in Britain.

Sister track 'Midnight Wave' sounds a little like The Sufaris-Wipeout but a darker more hopped up version, drenched in guitars and rampant drums; are words really necessary? It seems it would work even without as last track 'Do The Jay Jay' proves.

The crazed, surfadelic instrumental delivers whining guitars and 60s synth play and being the longest track at over 2 minutes long, it makes for a triumphant treat.

Although neither of the first 2 tracks made the 2 minute mark, if you like your surfer rock scuzzed up, then these are well worth a listen.
