Lotus Mason - Lotus Mason

After a year of ups and downs, which included surgery, births and earthquakes to top it all off, the UK are finally privy to the debut self titled album from Lotus Mason.

As these London pop rockers produce their work of creativity, they are able to make a big sound through little effort. This eleven-track release has been crafted by implanting a slice of 80s, 90s and current day indie and dance into their pop rock podium. The dance effect many of the tracks are in tune with adds the right touch to stand out. You would think these elements along with dark underbellies ('Apple'), vocal twists and turns, the debut single 'Dream Surreal' and atmospheric alterations that mesmerise and force a listener to drift off to, would grasp a listeners undivided attention, however it doesn't.

One that does stand out and is the album's finest track is the upbeat floor-filler 'Automatic Human' due to its cheerful melodies and catchy lyrics. The repetition of "automatic, hydromatic, instamatic, automatic human" is adamant that you sing along. 'Dream of You' is also quite a punchy tune, the quickest track with no doodling, mucking about or elongated conclusions.

Besides these two numbers, the remainder of the release something that could be easily forgotten once the album is over. This is mainly caused by the stretched out conclusions to some songs. Other than this factor, a good album, just nothing that particularly stands out.
