Restyled power rock
Speedshot's latest EP "New York or Bust" opens with a bang, rock heavy guitars and upbeat melodies set you up for 5 tracks of power rock. Opening track 'Get It' is a head nodding, toe tapping 4 minutes, closing with a wailing guitar solo. 'Ernie 69' follows with a more mainstream pop/rock sound, sing along vocals and fast paced rhythyms through the first half of the song then quietening down through the middle before kicking in to intricate guitars and a return to the pace to close.
Frontman Danny Young's voice is a stand out on all tracks, leading the Bedforshire trios sound; moving from high notes that border on falsetto down to low notes that are Nick Cave-eqsue in their darkness.
'Blood Sweat & Beers' has that old school power rock feel. It makes you think big hair, tight pants and fun. (Never fear, the band don't actually look like a throwback 80's hair band!)
Closing with 'New York' a song that is lead by it's lyrical tale with the repeating refrain "I haven't made it to New York"; it is a perfect complement to opener 'Get It' the two bookending the EP neatly.
Speedshot have crafted a set of upbeat, fast paced and energetic power rock songs; taking their lead from 80s power rock bands and today's pop rock sensibilities - blending it all together and producing something new, distinct and fun.
