Razorlight
There's something about Razorlight I've never been fond of. I can't quite put my finger on it, they tick all the right 'successful Indie band' boxes, that's for sure, but I've never been a fan.
Their latest single, Somewhere Else, is certainly catchy, but there's no real substance to it. It seems to drag its heels and never offers up that vital, stomping chorus that provides the backbone to a great sing-a-long indie ballad. The 'crowd' sound bites in the background at random intervals and the token string arrangement just reeks of cheesy stadium rock and make the track seem embarrassingly over-done.
This seems to be one of those songs bands pen to show their "deeper" side, whilst secretly hoping it will be the sing-a-long hit at their summer festival shows, but - despite Johnny's repetitive warbles - Somewhere Else lacks any real emotion and just plods on until you find your finger magnetically attracted to the 'stop' button.
It's been done before boys, lets hope you manage to muster up something a little more original next time, eh?
