The Ideal Teaser
Having earned the right to open the main stage at this year's Hevy Festival, Sidcup's Hildamay are continuing their momentous year with the release of their debut EP, "We Loved, We Lost". With impassioned vocals at the helm accompanied by gutsy riffs and rampaging beats, "We Loved, We Lost" is the perfect taster of what's to come from the British lads.
'Parachutes' hurtles out of the starting blocks with Tim Lawrence's gravel tinged vocals immediately making an impact. Not too aggressive that the lyrics get lost and yet not so sweet that you wonder which choir he's escaped from, Lawrence brings the perfect blend that, when combined with the power riffs that soar across infectious melodies and hooks, make for a lethal cocktail. With hints of Thrice and early years Thursday unashamedly strutting their way through the likes of 'Delicate', a full out guitar attack that demands air fist pumping participation, to the contagious call and response chorus of 'By Your Side' all the way through to 'We Loved, We Lost' which sees the Sidcup quintet slow things down whilst still unleashing an anthem striving beast, this is an EP that simply over flows with promise; sure not everything is perfect but for a debut, Hildamay have created a real gem. Ultimately it is left to 'In Your Eyes' to vie for the most attention and steal the show. With its nod to Billy Talent and relentless contagious hooks that will ensnare all, it hints at the potential greatness of Hildamay. From the jabbing intro, an instant attention grabber that bristles with a melodic undercurrent strapped to fist pounding beats, to the emotion drenched lyrics all the more prominent thanks to Lawrence's gritty vocals, 'In Your Eyes' is a hook laden colossus that deserves to be reaching a wide audience.
An insight into what can only be even more great things to come, "We Loved, We Lost" is the ideal teaser EP that should keep you happy and excited for the full album release.
