Dark pop
This is the lead single taken from Mike Marlin's upcoming new album "Man On The Ground". 'The Magician' is a sweetly melodic single from Marlin with a melancholic air and a fuller, darker sound than we've heard from him previously, but his lovely rich vocals bring a much needed warmth to that new sound.
Aside from Mike's vocals, musically the track is not hugely exciting. The more theatrical backing, rather than sounding orchestral, has a distinct 80s pop feel to it and while it does try to rouse the spirits with blasts from the cymbals and some nice effects on the guitars it actually feels more like an album track than a single as, although it's memorable, it doesn't have that catchy punch that makes you want to play it over and over.
