Mike Marlin - This Town Single Review

After a year through which Marlin has swanned effortlessly having been chosen as HMV's Next Big Thing after releasing his debut album Nearly Man, and managing to produce a follow up at Abbey Road Studios by the end.

This single for said album is a bilious rock'n'roll number taking an anonymous nemesis as its muse.  This is the kind of nemesis we all have to deal with during our time on this earth.  This Town is a moreish number with Mike's baritone growl acquiescing perfectly with the grove of a Wurlitzer jammed through a Memory Man guitar pedal that floods and swooping over pulsing keys that caress Marlins' vocals intertwining with their gruff dynamic delivery to produce a single that comes together to produce a half-hearted almost effortlessly catchy fun track if nothing else.

With nationwide and European tours set for 2012 Marlin's carefree songwriting and impressive languid growl as displayed on this single, it is likely that 2012 will be as effortless as 2011 for the artist, and after such time in the wilderness before being picked up by the music fraternity it seems he is bound to get the popular praise that he duly deserves.
