Witness The Fall - Witness The Fall EP

Witness The Fall may not have been together long, but the intense controlled passion with which they play would deny that. Coming from Dumfries it's no doubt the five of them took the talents they had and dedicated their lives to taking Heavy Metal by the balls and thrashing the old guard awake with relentless double time bass and melodic yet crushing, lightening-speed riffs.

Since their raw debut EP they've been putting the backbreaking effort into their career that only true self-belief can feed. They've got mentions from Metal Hammer and have played alongside names like Horizons in a blanket bomb tour of Scotland and Northern England. 2010 saw them in the studio again recording this self-titled lottery ticket in an intense eight days, smelting six tracks into a single disc carrying their dreams on the cusp of being thrown to the lions, or taken in by the industry's ebb and flow.

Opening track An End to the Darkness shows the band's intent from the start though it does verge on the generic with excessive guitar solos, open chords and harmonies much in the vein of Bullet For My Valentine, but there's no denying the flawless technique of these young guys with Dikie on drums managing to blow my mind.

The Dying Art of Integrity follows and it's starting to become clear that not a lot separates these tracks with the odd tweak here and there attempting to pass for creativity. The Tragedy of Man adds variety to the relentless screaming with the introduction of what sounds like vocals and is also bestowed with an intricate time signature that shows a band ready to take on the bigger venues as tempos mix with guitar and percussive virtuosity that is spellbinding at times.

It is clear that this group is never going to be U2 , but God damn it they can play. If you like Killswitch Engage, Trivium or Arch Enemy and acts in that genre then you'll certainly enjoy a good listen to this EP.
