Films Of Colour – Running

Current darlings of the music press, quartet Films Of Colour wow us once again with new single Running. Awash with droning yet dreamy guitars, Running is a slice of quirky indie goodness with all the mellow overtones of Coldplay and all the dour melancholy gloom of Radiohead without all the annoying typecasting attached with it. Contradicting? Yes, a little but it works very well. There are degrees of heartbreak and paranoia interwoven into the lyrics and crooned out by vocalist Andy Clutterbuck. Get past the potential generic pitfalls that could quite easily be lumped in here and you have a charming single that does its best to try and win you over. Despite almost rigidly sticking to the indie rock blueprint that you've almost come to expect from their peers, the guitars and the soaring chorus set this lovely bunch apart from everyone else. The degree of density is to the point where you could quite happily get lost for an eternity in this gem.

B-side Creature of Habit slinks along much like its companion with much more upbeat energy injected into the chorus which again is this exclamation point against the electronic backdrop and some buzzing guitar work.

A strong single that makes you sit up, take notice and realise these kids have some balls.
