Kids Can't Fly - Northern Horizons
Ska-edged pop-punk musicians Kids Can't Fly began to take their musical talents seriously from early 2011 and since then have been touring to promote their sound. Their recent four track release, Northern Horizons is a stunning masterpiece, recorded at Monnow Valley and produced by Welsh rock producer Romesh Dodangoda.
Northern Horizons establishes the bands own unique blend of ska infused pop punk, uplifting tunes that will drive you crazy for more. Esmeralda, written about a band members girlfriend, is a brilliant opener and introduction the band's sound. It's pop punk with punchy guitars, a strong edgy lead vocal and some excellent backing harmonies. This is quickly followed by Stick To Your Guns. This track has a chorus that will have anyone singing along with the "we are" chants which really show unity and passion.
Happily Never After is where the Fall Out Boy comparison kicks in, with Robin's vocals sounding quite similar to Patrick Stump and this track sounding a little like Fall Out Boy's early material such as Thriller. The EP concludes with No Matter What, yet another explosive song, using the harmonies and guitar riffs to great strengths. The addition of a horn section by Dave and Chris throughout these tracks makes everything that was punchy and upbeat that little bit more delightful. The brass is most significant on the chorus if the tracks and makes these parts bouncier and more memorable.
The Southampton six-piece recently went on tour to promote this EP and it went down a storm. Although they may be newbies to the music scene, there is no doubt the upcoming album, due for release later this year, will go down a storm.
