Bad Veins - The Mess We've Made

Over the past 6 years Bad Veins have been creating quite a name for themselves. Having already toured with big names such as Frightened Rabbit, We Were Promised Jetpacks, and Two Door Cinema Club, and soon to be on tour in the UK with the ever popular We Are Scientists - Bad Veins are making sure they are circulating wherever they can in order to get their music heard.

The Mess We've Made is the second album to be released by Bad Veins, and it's definitely attention grabbing. The Mess We've Made is arriving at the right time of the year for its sound - likely to create a fun, yet chilled soundtrack for many over the summer.

The opening track, Run sets the tone for the album really quite well with strong, euphonic vocals and a bouncy, catchy sound. From the initial track I instantly made audible connections with bands such as Jack's Mannequin, All American Rejects and a tone relatable to UK based White Lies.
The album is particularly interesting as the album does not seem to stick to one particular genre or style of music, yet the 'sound' of the band is very obvious and very unique throughout. Hard to explain - but understandable if you take a listen!

The album consists of tracks which are upbeat and almost verging on an 'emo' genre, epic tracks with violins and tracks such as Dancing on TV with dancey, electro vibes.
There is also a sweet, very enjoyable ballad on the album, called Doubt which has audible undertones of The Postal Service, and is the sort of track you would expect to hear over the emotional scenes of Grey's Anatomy, The OC or a rom-com film. The very easy-on-the-ear vocals make this song one for a pop audience, and could easily be the making of this bands popularity.

This album is definitely likeable, there's no doubt about that. It's hard to define what particular demographic would enjoy this album the most, but I believe there's something in it for everyone who enjoys a bit of pop-rock. The album is unique in many ways, showcasing the ability of band, yet it's not the most exciting album you're likely to hear this year. However, I do believe that Bad Veins are yet to see the true success they're capable of, and hopefully this year will bring this for them with this album.
