Colours Of One EP
Colours of One are back! Their new EP, Apparitions, opens with a bang, an upbeat, positive air of soaring "whoas" leading opening track Dust & Chalk in and setting the scene for 5 songs that will take you on a journey of highs, lows and everything in between.
Frontman Mike Simmonds' smooth as silk voice just gets better with age and experience. Once again he is supported by strong backing vocals and perfectly blended rhythms and melodies to create the epic, soaring rock that the band is known for.
Apparitions shows a maturity in Colours of One's songwriting. First single, Echoes, is edgy, its sharp beats cutting through the vocals and bringing a dancey, fist pumping vibe to the song. See Doubt, Raise Fear; with its bell like melodies and balladic chorus is a lighter, flowing piece that just begs you to sing along; while Moving Zeros is classic Colours of One with its mid paced beat, winding melodies and steady rhythms.
Closing with an epic, Bloom is a strong bookend to opener Dust & Chalk'. Another soaring melody topped with thoughtful, engaging lyrics it brings the EP to an end, leaving you satisfied and yet wanting more!
For those new to the band - take the best ballad moments of bands such as 30 Seconds to Mars and Lostprophets, throw in the strength of sound of bands such as Alter Bridge, add a dash of pure powerful passion and a distinctive vocal sound and there you have it.
Apparitions is another carefully crafted, perfectly performed musical journey from the Welshmen. Colours of One have once again produced an EP to get lost in. I recommend you put it on, learn the lyrics and escape in the melodies.
