Rob Zombie - Mondo Sex Head

When I heard Rob Zombie was releasing an album of EDM influenced remixes of some of his earlier material, I was part horrified and part intrigued. Zombie is a Marmite artist, you either love him or hate him, and that's how many people feel about EDM; which leaves only three options - something amazing, something terrible or something incredibly mediocre.

Mondo Sex Head kicks off with Thunder Kiss '65, as soon as that song starts playing you know you're in for a an exhilarating ride of musical mayhem. Thunder Kiss '65 is the song that many think was the making of Rob back in the White Zombie days has now been re-worked by Korn's Jonathon Davis also known as J Devil. The sound of song is incredibly different to the original, yet somehow highlights the classic riff, it is simply awesome. A great starting point.

Deftones frontman Chino Moreno has done a fabulous job reworking Dragula, it has a retro feel, almost a Pet Shop Boys vibe. Lords Of Salem and Foxy Foxy are killer tracks, the reworkings are perfect.

The whole of Mondo Sex Head sounds simply amazing, I hope that some of these modern day twists on Zombie's classic songs will be aired in the live setting on his upcoming UK tour. Zombie is a true entertainer and this album is a lot of fun. Even people who claim to hate Zombie will struggle not to dance around to some of these songs. I class myself as a Zombie fan, and I was definitely struggling to sit still while writing this review.

Few artists have a long and successful career in metal, let alone reach the iconic status that Rob Zombie has and Mondo Sex Head is proof as to why Zombie has become a modern day renaissance man in the eyes of many. This album has given new life to old songs and is nothing short of an epic release.
