Superintendent release debut album
One thing's for sure there's nothing amateurish about cleverly titled debut First Offence , in fact it's pretty impressive when you consider it was created by a band that only formed in February 2011. Lying somewhere between Incubus and System of a down Superintendent appear to have found their sound quite quickly.
First Offence is an album full of frustrations, from modern technology to doing the day job; it seems everything these days is getting on Superintendent's nerves. The Monotonator with it's consciously repetitive sound is a track about struggling with monotony. The honestly titled Kill me it's a Monday which ends with Phillips repeatedly shouting "I can not stand the thought of the week starting over again", something which I think everyone can relate to when the alarm clock starts ringing on Monday morning. An addictive beat make this a great track to stomp-a-long to after a really bad day. Then if that doesn't work there's always up beat Crack a smile, packed full of air guitar worthy riffs and lyrics like "It's a bad day but you'll get through it" which even after the worst of days is sure to at least put a small grin on your face.
Superintendent have made what some would consider a brave choice including Not as it seems , 5 minutes and 40 seconds of purely instruments as the closing track to their album. A potentially risky move for a debut but really showcases the band's musical ability a clear message that these guys can play, and don't need to hide behind the vocals. Opening track, the tongue in cheek Are we having fun yet? is a loud and boisterous yet perfect introduction to the band and really sets the tone for the album, so much so that the band decided to release it as a free download on their Soundcloud page.
On a whole First Offence is everything a debut needs to be, interesting, engaging and pretty memorable but still leaving plenty of room to grow and a new wave of fans eagerly anticipating more. First Offence is due to be released on 24th September under the band's own Mighty Man Bear Records label.
