Back To Their Best
Whilst we got a taste for new Soundgarden material with the track written for the Avengers film this summer (and were treated to a few festival appearances), it was really a new album which everyone was waiting and hoping for. After the announcement that King Animal will be released on November 13th through Seven Four Entertainment/Universal Republic, this marks the first single release for that particular EP, and wow is it good. The track has one of the catchiest riffs I've heard in a long, long time, it will literally be in your head for hours, even days. As soon as Chris Cornell unleashes into "You can't go home, no I swear you never can", you cannot help but feel a sense of joy as his blistering performance again proves why he is one of the greatest front-men around.
You just cannot help thinking as you listen to the lyrics that this feels like an acknowledgement to the fans. Being that Soundgarden have not released an album since Down On The Upside about sixteen years ago, this is set to serve as a great album opener on the new release after such a long time. The band exudes an absolute bucket-load of confidence, as each are given an opportunity to showcase their ability, even teasing a little bass solo, and with Matt Cameron at his pulsating best this is the Soundgarden we all know and love. Yes Soundgarden you were away for too long but its damn good to have you back if this is what the reunion promises. Bring on King Animal.
