All Mixed Up

Denmark may not be considered a hotbed when you think of countries that have produced, Mercyful Fate and The Raveonettes being two cases from different ends of the rock spectrum. However, that is all about to change with the arrival of The Foreign Resort.

Having already impressed us with their The Foreign Resort EP earlier this year, this album was eagerly anticipated. On first observation, it appeared to be a little bit of a cheat involved. Out of the 10 tracks, two of them are the same track (Delayed both in its original and 'Radio Edit' version). Then there are four tracks which are just re-mixes from previous releases, three of which are from The Foreign Resort EP - I am at a loss as to why they have done this - these tracks originally had a great edgy feel to them, which seems to have been lost in these versions. This is usually what you expect from free downloads or B-Sides.

That basically leaves us with 5 tracks to save this review and one of them was previously released in 2009! Opener Delayed is a monster of a track both in length and sound, the 'Radio Edit' is still over 4 minutes long and it is a pleasure all the way through. Buried continues with the kick ass feel. The other newbies all impress too, showing different moods and styles to the tracks.

Being a longer release gives The Foreign Resort more scope and on Scattered and Buried we get to hear them explore their more creative experimental side, especially on the re-mixes. This may lose the wow factor that The Foreign Resort EP had but it should not let you lose sight that the Danish boys are one talented bunch. There are still the full on rocking tracks that made us love this band and quite probably an album full of these tracks may just take the edge away from them. Just releasing a five track EP would have given this a near perfect score; my advice would be just pay for the new tracks on your download and go get the full versions of the previous releases. By doing so you will be discovering the great stuff that The Foreign Resort create.
