Aerosmith - Music From Another Dimension!
Steven Tyler and co are back with a new album Music From Another Dimension which is the first collection of original Aerosmith songs in over a decade.
A lot of people will be apprehensive about what is contained in Music From Another Dimension but there are some really great songs to be heard on this album; especially Lover A lot which has a classic Aerosmith sound, a true return to form. Legendary Child and Oh Yeah could also have been lifted from the band's back catalogue.
Perhaps the most interesting song on the album is Can't Stop Lovin' You which sees the band's music take a big swerve in the Country direction. They've teamed up with country crooner and American Idol winner Carrie Underwood, and although it won't be the most instantly likeable track to Aerosmith fans, it is extremely well performed and Underwood's and Tyler's voices work perfectly together.
Joe Perry and Brad Whitford have done a great job at creating some killer hooks and riffs, the songs are catchy and you get that the impression that the whole band has had a lot of fun making this album.
Music From Another Dimension is home to three ballads; Another Last Goodbye, What Could Have Been Love and We All Fall Down, which is at least one ballad too many. In parts of Another Last Goodbye Tyler's awe-inspiring voice sounds screechy at best, unfortunately, that song has more than one note from Tyler that is uncomfortable to listen to. Overall, Tyler's voice sounds great and it's actually amazing that he has been able to maintain one of the few instantly recognisable voices in the industry for all these years.
While there are some moments where you can hear Aerosmith's classic sound, parts Music From Another Dimension sounds like a watery version of the music that once saw them rule the world, but this album is definitely more in line with their iconic sound than their previous offering.
