Intense and atmospheric
MINE hadn't been playing together very long when we caught their set of atmospheric hardcore at Swn Festival in October this year (unbelievably it was just their second gig) and they got us really excited to hear more; so when the opportunity arose to cover their recently released EP we couldn't resist. Featuring members of Hang The Bastard, Centurions Ghost and A Long Time Dead, you know that this lot will be worth checking out, but what makes MINE so listenable is not just what's missing - a lack of metal chugging - but what they've added to their punk-rock sound, and that's some lovely, densely layered (verging on) post-rock atmospherics in the form of swirly guitars, washes of intense noise broken by clever little fiddly moments and gradual builds from gentle beginnings and breakdowns to feedback drenched screams.
Don't get us wrong, they don't hold back either and there is plenty of full-on ear wrecking noise to be had, but what you remember is what sets them apart from the standard scream you into submission type H/C and it's what keeps you coming back for more. This EP is an excellent four tracks and MINE are another of the current batch of Brit hardcore bands getting us so excited about what's happening out there at the moment.
