Alkaline Trio - My Shame Is True
Following their fifteenth anniversary in 2011, Alkaline Trio are back with their ninth studio album; My Shame Is True.
As one of modern punk rock's most prolific bands it seems like they are always releasing new material, so it seems kind of odd that this is only their ninth studio album.
The album opens with She Lied To The FBI which perfectly sets the tone for the rest of the album; instantly likable and easy to get into. This track is followed by the recently released single; I Wanna Be A Warhol, which has a classic Alkaline Trio sound - in a similar vein to Crimson with a slight synth twist.
The tracks on My Shame Is True have the makings of true Alkaline Trio tracks; driving guitars, smart drumming and Matt Skiba's trademark dark lyrics, which are perfectly mixed together to make catchy songs that get stuck in your head and make you sing along by the second listen.
While the sounds on My Shame Is True are more in line with Alkaline Trio's signature style, Skiba has definitely pulled influences from his side project; The Sekrets into the mix which fans may find slightly off putting.
Overall, Alkaline Trio have made a solid album which for the most part has a classic sound so is bound to be far more enjoyable to fans than their previous effort.
