Girls go rock
They might not have actually chained themselves to anything (or not that they're likely to admit), but The Suffrajets do a lot for the equally successful 'grrrl' rock movement. They're brash, beautiful and their drummer has just returned from the circus of Babyshambles; they've got all the qualities needed to burst through the roof of the charts.
"Sold" kicks off with a punk power riff, a formidable statement of intention. Singer Claire Wakeman's voice is as rough as Brody Dalle's, with an endearing snarl and urgency. It's a strong tune and what it lacks in intellectual content, it makes up for in arse kicking female venom. A powerful bass line, frantic chorus and pounding percussion make "Sold" a formidable contender in any rock contest.
Will their songs still stand up after the girl group attraction has worn off? Who knows, but I certainly hope so, and godly fans like Bruce Dickinson certainly do them no harm.
