BOUNCE
Spirytus may be one of those band names that has lived in the deep recesses of your brain. One of those bands 'you've heard of' but may not have actually 'heard'. Change all of that right now. After receiving some critical acclaim off the back of Fred Durst's very public backing in 2009, Spirytus has crawled along under the surface, delivering smash-mouth live performances up and down the land. In fact you may very well have watched Limp Bizkit's Download 2009 performance, remember that guy Fred Durst plucked from the crowd who absolutely stole the song Full Nelson? So good in fact they got him back to do the full song in 2013. The cries of 'get that guy in a band!!'? Yeah this is his band.
And the result? Well you can probably guess there is a definite Limp Bizkit/Korn vibe going on but there is an added groove, a savagery similar to the like of Sepultura and Soulfly. Opening track Fundamentals immediately unleashes this EP into complete chaos as the band transfer between heavy groove-metal laden riffs to funkier bass driven moments. The bass sound on this EP is just absolutely brilliant, similar to Tim Commerford's style or Billy Gould from Faith No More fame, just check out the bass midway through Horses Will Bleed and you'll see, pure awesome. Lead single from the EP, Mandem, packs a punch also and is the kind of metal tune written for the sole purpose of stirring crowd's into bedlam at live shows. The bouncy riffs and easy to chant and follow vocals must surely make this a live beast. Oh and All Because Of Me is absolutely mental so if you do anything after reading this then check this track right out.
Perhaps the only gripe is the slight lack in variety as the EP progresses. The band have found their sound, their direction, which is great but at times riff's feel slightly recycled between tracks which can be a bit of a shame. It's one of those Metal albums which doesn't require too much thought, it's an album written to drink beer to and jump around like a complete idiot.
