Beastmilk - Climax
Climax is the debut album from Finnish rock quartet; Beastmilk. Be careful not to misread as the band name as 'Breastmilk', or you'll find yourself getting some interesting Google results when looking for background info on the band (trust me, I know).
Beastmilk's music won me over from the opening track Death Reflects Us, their sound is different, likeable and distinguishable. Kvohst's lyrics are poetic and instantly draw you in, his vocal work is great; strong and compelling. Despite the Finnish stereotype, I was surprised to read Kvohst's vocals have mainly been found in black metal bands - there is no hint of that on Climax.
Beastmilk sound like a cohesive unit but in sounding incredible tight, each band member is able to hold their own; the production on Climax is perfect, it allows every instrument to be listened to and honed in on showing of the musicianship of every band member.
The ten tracks that make up Climax have captured a classic sound, so despite having never heard them before, they sound some what familiar. If you love 80's rock music, Climax is likely to be your album of the year.
Climax shows that Beastmilk are destined for big things, their song writing skills are second to none, they have created an album that is likeable and charismatic, but that somehow manages to house some dark moments.
The music that Beastmilk create is bound to have a wide appeal, one that will reach all fans in all corners of the vast rock world. Climax is a fabulous debut album, and I'm looking forward to hearing more from this talented bunch.
