Merry Xmas from Bad Religion
Sick of Band Aid? Sick of that warbling moose Mariah Carey? Well rejoice! (literally) Bad Religion are here to save us all. The album is all you need for Christmas Morning. We received this little gem in our RoomThirteen inbox some time ago now, but we thought it best to leave it till the beers and the mince pies were starting to flow before attacking it. And it was well worth the wait. Punk does Christmas is not new, Punk doing Christmas really well is very rare but it's what we've got here.
Bad Religion have managed to turn really old school, and arguably some of the more religious, Christmas Songs into some of the catchiest numbers heard all year. It will only take hearing O Come All Ye Faithful once and you will absolutely be singing it for the rest of the day. Perhaps the most strikingly brilliant thing about this album is just how sincere the band sound. In fact they sound more sincere than the original versions to a point delivering this weird, kind of dark, feel to what are fundamentally 'merry' songs. Don't let that put you off, this isn't a depressing Christmas album at all, it will have you up jumping around beer in hand no problem it's just the brilliant Bad Religion twist. Highlights include Little Drummer Boy which sounds absolutely massive and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. Just so much fun we promise.
So when the day hits its lull and the suggestions of board games arise, throw this 30 minute flurry of chaos on. You'll definitely kick some life into proceedings.
