King Goat - King Goat
Brighton metal heads King Goat are back with their second EP; a self-titled three-track release, which in true metal style runs for over 26 minutes.
Opening track The Final Decline is slow building, which isn't overly surprising when it runs for a whopping 12 minutes 52 seconds – it's not like King Goat are in any real hurry to get this track going.
It takes over eight and a half minutes for The Final Decline to pick up the pace, that's when the gruff vocals kick in, and the musical side of is suddenly not so sparse. It is not a great opening number; it does not inspire you to listen to the remainder of the rest of the EP. The whole track seems like a bit of a non-event; and a long one at that.
Next up is Cult Obscene; its catchy bass riff just about holds your attention until the song really kicks off. It is a much stronger song than the opener, showing an impressive vocal performance, but it still feels like something is missing. Closing track Melian's Trance is by far the strongest of the three tracks on this self-titled EP; it is kind of like what the other two songs have been building up to, but it is a long way of being a hard hitting metal track.
King Goat is lackluster at best, it runs for far too long without any content that is really worthy of hanging around to listen to. A disappointing effort from the King Goat boys.
