When We Were Wolves - Heartless
South Wales has been known to dish out its fair share of energetic and enthusiastic musicians over the years and When We Were Wolves is another to add to the list. It was the middle of 2011 when Post-Hardcore quintet When We Were Wolves started making a name for themselves, playing as many shows as they possible could and as a result, building a strong following. Three years later and the bands fan base is continuing to grow with their new release Heartless, released September 22nd, looking set to propel the band even further.
This EP is the follow up release to last year's The More Things Change, The More We Stay The Same and will instantly hit you like a thump in the chest. The EP's lead single Dying On the Inside is an instant explosion, with some hard hitting melodies, guitars ravaging and vocals from Mitch Bock screaming for a breath throughout the verses while a little tamer on the choruses. This ball of energy created filters through to the next track with The Devil You Know clenching onto your insides even stronger and having a good hard tug. Blind follows suit and after an extended suspense filled introduction, smacks you in the face with its frantic guitars and manic pounding; this one is a little more manic than the previous two as there is not gentler vocal for a moments breath - just pure ear shattering mayhem. Confession continues on with another demonstration of the bands on going talent. It is the EP's title track which rounds off the release with a bang. This rather passionate performance adds much more depth to an already engaging EP and is certainly the most memorable of the five tunes here and the one that will take your breath away.
Heartless is an EP that will instantly grasp your attention upon a first listen. Having already shared the stage with the likes of Bury Tomorrow, Heights, The Blackout and The Amity Affliction to name a few, the band have confirmed a UK tour throughout September and will drag even more souls into their on going collection of followers.
