Fire Fighting

Danko Jones need very little introduction, having been knocking around for 18 years, a dozen albums and more transatlantic trips than you can count on your fingers and toes. While never really cracking the real big headline name act, they remain one of the go-to bands if you ever need some good ol’ fashioned in your face rock.

So, what do you get for your money on the Canadian trios latest long player Fire Music? Well, to start with you get 11 tracks all pretty much around the 3 minute mark but what you also get is 11 tracks that are non-stop full force pulsating rock music. Not one second of this album is wasted with an arty intro, soft slow power ballad, taking a breather or any of that soft stuff - this is pure fighting, moshing, kicking your ass and ‘if you don’t like it then fuck off’ type of music.

Perfect example of the fighting style music has to go to the aptly named Gonna Be A Fight Tonight, a track that was selected by the biggest wrestling mob WWE to be used as the official theme tune to their ‘WWE Royal Rumble’ event recently. You don’t need to be a fan of wrestling to know just how huge it is over the pond. Not sure the track would have worked with Giant Haystacks and Big Daddy over here though.Body Bags, I will Break Your Heart and She Ain’t Coming Home all fit the same mould too. If you are looking for tales of love and heart ache, you are looking in the wrong place.

While all the tracks follow down the same vein of being full throttle, there is no danger of them feeling repetitive. Each track has its own fresh hatred feel. For many bands Fire Music would be considered a proud greatest hits compilation, for Danko Jones it is just another notch on an already impressive belt.

Danko Jones will be touring Europe over March and April, sadly London on the 18th March is the only UK date but those that can go should not miss out.
