Akria the Don shows us how to split a tune and maybe some pills on the way in his new EP 'AAA'
Quite recently in today's music industry, the two ends of the musical horseshoe have grown closer and closer. This is to say that finally there is music present within out society that touches on both rap and rock. This was briefly encountered when Aerosmith did 'Walk This Way' with MC legends Run DMC but more recently there has been a formation of bands such as the Transplants and the rise of MC Lars. Not only have groups been delving further into exploring the links between hip hop/rap and rock/punk, they've also been encouraged by the positive reception they've received from the audience. Akira the Don is a white, blonde long haired MC from somewhere not South and has taken the role of the UK answer to MC Lars. Similar to Lars, Akira the Don also uses his computer to create his songs for him to 'MC' over. Akira (real name Adam) has recently release 'AAA EP', a 3 track disc consisting of what Akira does best.
Akira starts the mini EP with 'Patrick' a subtle song about a friend who Akira was very close too. The thing about this song is that it's more than just 20 something lines of rhymes. It's a story that Akira feels genuinely saddened about and has put it into a song. In contrast, 2nd track 'Living in the Future' is probably the best song out of the three due its catchiness and some of the amusing lines. The reason it stands out from the two other songs is how much it contrasts with the other songs and how the issues at steak in 'Living in the Future' are mostly light hearted references which most internet nerds, like me, can relate to.
The structure of each song simply resembles that of a typical hip hop song. Infested with drum loops and synthesisers. I find that this EP isn't anything special apart from that single song 'Living In The Future' which if it was released as a single could easily reach the top 40 charts.
