The future of pop

Distophia- what I'd like to dub discordant pop. Engaging music for the modern person; the person who is grown up enough not to give a rats arse about Fightstar, but not nearly old enough to resort to a lifestyle of Dido-eque ballads. 'Children Know The Score' is a schizophrenic tune, which reminds me slightly of Hot Hot Heat with a hint of Coldplay in the vocals and the Shins in the guitar department. It's all over the place, but in the good way which makes it all the catchier.

'Starvation Cove' has the same Shins meets Hot Hot Heat appeal; it has more of a discernable singalong chorus than the previous track, but never gets predictable. It has an unusual arrangement, one which reminds me ever so slightly of At The Drive In, I think it takes a specific type of listener to "get" this, but it's definitely enough of an incentive to make me want to go out and buy the album.

'The Past Is An Albatross' is calm and serene, and I suppose, more average than the other two tracks, but for one it displays their versatility. It is an altogether more stripped down song and has more of a traditional approach. Nothing really sticks out in my head about this song other than it shows that this band is capable of more than one type of good songwriting, and that's always a plus.

This band apparently have a "healthy disrespect for fashion, hype and throwaway superlatives" which makes me like them even more. NME dubbed them "noise"; I tend to dub anything NME says as indie elitist trash, I say this band are a brilliant amp blowing pop band that deserve to take over the charts. A great insight into this band's range, one which I'm certainly hoping to hear more of.
