Classic Coldplay, the band at their best, have you had your fix yet?
'X&Y' upon its release, went to number one in 32 counties, stayed there for three weeks in the US and passed the million sales mark after six weeks. The biggest band in the world were onto a winner and the album was undeniably an astonishing display of masterful song writing. Coldplay have cemented themselves in the halls of musical clout, have well and truly established themselves as creators of classic records and firmly rooted their music in the ears of many generations to come.
One of the biggest triumphs of the organ-clad, heavenly record is the hymnal and encapsulating 'Fix You', now chosen for release as the new single. Chris Martin's vocal shimmers all over the record with a delightful strong and earthy delivery and deliverance. As the guitars come in, it builds up to an almost orgiastic level, finally topped when the drums and all the choral vocals enter, interestingly this is the first Coldplay track to have all the band members contributing vocally to it.
Well, superb choice for second single, the rocking 'Speed of Sound' and it's clever associations with 'Clocks' was brilliant in announcing the fact Coldplay have returned, but 'Fix You' is a song handed down to the band by God, with chord changes crafted in heaven it's unquestionably one of the best records of the year and will be remembered for many years to come as a true classic.
