The children of no revolution
I was disappointed to have missed The Explosion open up for goth/punkers Good Charlotte back at Easter, but work and Bank Holiday traffic was to blame, my friends, so I was unable to experience the hype that has slowly been bubbling up over the past 9 months. Boston brawlers The Explosion have been causing quite a stir with their brash and ballsy punk rock, and as the title suggests, they aren't scared to make a statement either.
'No Revolution' starts with a slow deep riff that's reminiscent of old school metal, but as the vocals kick in with a fast beat, you know that this is less about denim, back combed hair, and spandex, and more about short hair, tattoos and attitude. With lyrics that speak of taking action and a chorus that starts, "All we know is what came before/ There's no revolution anymore..." you have a great sing-along anthem that pumps its fist with messages.
Unlike other bands that blow their advances on fast cars and loose women, The Explosion took their new found riches and set up their own label Tarantula Records, so as they could do their bit to help other bands and release music that they believe in. Having already toured, and this year supported bands like New Found Glory, Ordinary Boys, and the aforementioned Good Charlotte, and also getting ready for the Reading & Leeds Festivals at the Bank Holiday Weekend this month, The Explosion are doing all the right things to put themselves out where they should be - in front of the delighted masses.
The Explosion's highly acclaimed album, 'Black Tape', and this great single are both available now through Virgin Records, so go and buy them - you know you want to.
