English Prog Rockers Pure Reason Revolution Provide A Highly Enjoyable Release!

Truly progressive music is rare enough nowadays as it is, but truly progressive music that can still retain classic tried and tested elements whilst still sounding fresh? Even more rare! This is what makes Pure Reason Revolution and their latest CD 'Cautionary Tales For The Brave' such an interesting and essential listen to anyone who counts him or herself as a fan of interesting and progressive rock. Taking the best elements from bands such as Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd whilst adding their own modern spin onto proceedings this is a very enjoyable release.

Opener 'In Aurelia' sets the mood perfectly with fuzzy dirty sounding guitars and enjoyable harmonies, although not as ambitious or length as the other tracks on the album this was very much the highlight of it for me with its curious mixture of time-old song writing techniques with inventive new flairs. The two following songs; 'The Bright Ambassadors of Morning' and 'Arrival' are lengthier pieces which showcase the more atmospheric and experimental side of Pure Reason Revolutions sounds, whilst not as enjoyable as 'In Aurelia' these tracks showcase some very enjoyable and commendable musicianship whilst still retaining enough interest for the casual music fan.

Overall then 'Cautionary Tales From The Brave' is a highly enjoyable, inventive and most of all fresh CD. In a world of identical sounding rock and indie bands a talent like Pure Reason Revolution shines all the more strongly and hopefully this CD will bring them the recognition they clearly deserve. The only real criticism is that this CD is a mere 30 minutes. It is cruel of the band to include such little time of such great music!
