As much fun as pissing on a panda.
Quit Your Day Job hail from the blond capital of the world Sweden and look and sound a little like they've been drinking from the bottles found in the back of the cupboard again. We have short blast anthems that make the songs of The Ramones sound like epics and comprise of thumping drumming, sing-a-long choruses, very few verses (if any) and spacey-synthesizers. It sounds awful right? Wrong! It is stupidly addictive and although you may be scratching your head and questioning your psychological make up, you will hum, sing and jump around to these crazy Swedes until the Vikings come home...
First song 'Banzai Butterfly' shows tenderness and their love of nature with the touching words of "...die, die, die, Bonzai Butterfly". 'Sweden, We Got A Problem' is the album title track and bizarrely just comprises of the words, "We got a problem // We got a problem with Sweden", though they don't feel the necessity to elaborate on this revelation! Next song, 'Sperms Are Germs' is just greatly titled, whilst 'Evil Ray' actually has verses!
The music is very good and entertaining, and although there are not many words in a lot of the songs, the ones that are there are so catchy that you wonder whether anymore would in fact overload the structure too much and take away the impact.
Another great title is 'Pissing On A Panda' which sounds just like The Ramones would if they had ever swapped a bass for a Yamaha synthesizer for the afternoon. The lyrics revolve around, rather unsurprisingly, the pleasure that can be had from relieving oneself on the aforementioned big black and white bear...
'She-Male Godzilla' is pretty much just elecrica overload. 'I need A Tour Guide For My Own Head' is almost punky, and there's even the addition of a few, 'Oi, Oi's'. One warning though, don't listen to track 18, which comprises of high pitched noises that are liable to bring on a migraine! That said, the hidden song which I can only imagine is called, 'Head Of The Day Care Centre', is in fact a little gem and one of the best songs on here!!
Released through Bad Taste Records, 'Sweden We Got A Problem', has the industrial backbeat sounds of Marilyn Manson doing Ramones covers minus screaming and clocking in at premature 90 seconds. Quit Your Day Job are quite frankly nothing like you have ever heard before. You will either love them or hate them, but go listen to them and have the chance at becoming one of their freaks...
