Green Lights All The Way
'Nothing But Green Lights' is a typical Vek track, his music is a mixture of raw garage rock, with some interesting electronic bits mixed in and held together by a backbone that is best described as being funky. In the case of this track especially there is a real Happy Mondays or Fall feel to it both musically with the dance/rock fusion and Tom's powerful vocal performance.
This is an uncomplicated track, but often going for the simple but effective approach to gaining a winning formula is as hard hitting a method as having an elaborate song structure and spell binding rifts. The track opens with an eighties style keyboard loop that runs as a backdrop throughout, with a deep and powerful baseline and catchy guitar hook making up the body of the song. It is over before you realize it and does have a disappointing end as it fades away without a hint of change to it as if to say, "Right I've finished now, so there."
'Nothing But Green Lights' has the air and authority of a tune that could fill an Indie dancefloor in the same way as 'Hit the North' by The Fall might have done. It has the legs to become an anthem as that record has done and is better suited to appearing in a DJ set mixed in with a number of other tracks rather than standing alone as a single, for although it is a decent record, it does leave you wanting more.
Tom Vek releases this single from his debut album 'We Have Sound' on 24th October.
