Silver Sun go for gold!

Sounding like an English version of Tennis Pro with a catchy pop/rock sound, Silver Sun could also be described as an English Simple Plan with better harmonies, or an adult version of McFly - a band that you can tell your mates you like without ridicule and the need to call a help line.

Making a welcome return with their happy upbeat pop/rock, Silver Sun serve up another chapter of songs that are so infectiously catchy that even after one listen you will requiring the attention and medical advice of a doctor in order to get their songs out of your head!

First emerging in late 1996 with their singles 'Lava', and then 'Last Day', it wasn't until the massive radio airplay of 'Golden Skin' in May 1997 that propelled Silver Sun into the Top 20, and gave them a large following. Their eponymous debut album sold well and made them heroes in Japan, however their more experimental second album, 'Neowave' - although technically better than the first - lost some of the sparkle of the predecessor and record label Polydor decided to part company with them.

So more than 5 years in the making, 'Disappear Here' through Invisible Hands Music, hits the highs of their debut album and sustains the quality from the start to the finish, which they weren't always able to do before.

With 'Immediate' you have one of their least catchiest songs, which isn't to say that it won't grab on to you like a dog on your leg whilst you uncontrollably try to shake it off, before realising that it actually feels quite good...Starting with synthesisers it sounds as though it might be a dance track from someone like Fatboy Slim, until the thick guitar riffs kick in and the unmistakable vocals of James Broad kick lets you know who you are listening to.

This is a mid tempo number dripping with harmonies not seen or done so well since Def Leppard ruled the rocking roost in Blighty. James Broad's lyrics are not just hashed together either, the chorus sums this up with '...Written in condensation in the quarterlight// a pledge of light that we, knew was right...'. The single also has two other songs that are both so incredibly catchy that the only reason that they don't appear on the album can be that they were written after the album came out. 'Dance With Me' will fill dance floors across the country, and 'Sweet Baby' is just plain cool.

The charts seem to be a total lottery nowadays, so I can't even begin to hazard a guess at the possible success of this record, however Silver Sun have great happy, good time music with well written lyrics. Do yourself a really big favour and go out and buy their album, 'Disappear Here', you won't be disappointed!
