A New Order

The third single taken from this year's excellent 'Great White Hoax' album and surprise surprise it's another corker! The fact that it's on limited edition orange vinyl and comes with a smart cover is just an added bonus.

We've already come to expect certain things from Smother, not least that their songs are full of intelligent lyrics, great riffs and anthemic choruses. That's not to say that they are predictable and whilst 'A New Formation of the Truth' doesn't disappoint on any of these fronts, what's great about Smother is that they seem to manage to deliver all these qualities time after time and yet still avoid sounding 'samey'. Smother just exude repressed energy and aggression, it's infectious and impressive in equal measure and if this doesn't get your head nodding then quite frankly you're brain dead!

The double A–side features another album track ('Curiosity Killed the Sexes') and whilst completely different in style it's no less impressive. Taking elements of 80's pop/indie in the verse it's both catchy and quirky before bursting into a great chorus. This song more than any other demonstrates Smother's diversity and their ability to take elements from all genres and come up with their own sound. Currently working on their next album, Smother are one of the most exciting bands in the UK at the moment and to top this year's efforts they're going to have to come up with something pretty special but who would put it past them?
