Share his blues!
Joff Winks Band have a name that possibly would wanted to be said fast when under the influence, I should wager. But I'm completely unoriginal so I'm sure this is no revelation to the 28 year old from Oxford, as he invites us to share his blues.
Starting off with a guitar that sounds a little like the beginning to The Crocketts song '1939 Returning', however Joff's soft voice soothes more than Davey Macmanus, and this turns into a gentle rock song with a slight 70's feel to it, which is probably not that surprising seeing as Joff grew up on a musical diet of Dylan, Neil Young, Bowie and Hendrix.
It's a catchy number and will have you humming and singing the line of ' Who's gonna fit these shoes? 'Share my blues' after only a couple of plays. Joined by long time buddy Matt, then more recently Brad Waissman on bass and Paul Mallyon on the skins, the Joff Winks Band produce music which is said to be 'The Flaming Lips piloting Tortoise under the baton of Frank Zappa.
It's hard to judge anything more than this one song, however I am suitably impressed with another decent band from Oxford, and if there are a handful of songs half as good as this one on an album somewhere then I'd expect big things...Remember the name!
