Mellow Magic
Magic Numbers latest offering from their self-titled debut album is another one of their slower moments. 'I See You, You See Me' showcases all that is attractive about Magic Numbers, whilst never really moving out of second gear.
The melodic guitar work, enjoyable harmonies and male verses female vocals which compliment one another perfectly, song structure which involves more than a couple of pace changes which keep the listener hanging on just to see what's coming round the corner are all there, however their isn't the same exciting edge to this single as with their earlier releases.
The finger of blame if it were needed, can be pointed firmly in the direction of the fact that a number of singles have already come from the album and therefore this track is far from fresh. However there are many stronger songs in this bands repertoire, personally I'd have loved 'Mornings Eleven' to have been plastered all over the radio instead of this one, Magic Numbers excel when they rock out a bit.
They are without question a great band, richly deserving of their status as one of British music's break through elite at this year's Brit Awards. They're an excellent live band and the album is well worth owning, just give me faster, more lively and up lifting Magic Numbers any day of the week.
