Cracking!
Former Nylon Pylon duo Bruce Carter (guitar/vox) and Danny Saville (keyboards) come good here with the kind of anthemic electro pop single New Order used to release for fun in their eighties heyday circa "Power, Corruption and Lies".
Understated guitars meld with dreamy synths and gruff vox to create an intoxicating single that sounds better with each play. The dance floor friendly flip side remix by the much touted "Performance" meanwhile somehow manages to top the original, suggesting that in the hands of the right producer The Whip have the potential to join the pantheon of musical greats to have emerged from Manchester over the years. Alas this single is only available as a limited 7" for now but it's certainly well worth tracking down. Let's hope their eagerly anticipated debut album is of a similar high calibre. Having cited influences from Interpol to Fischerspooner there's no evidence to suggest otherwise.
