Colourful fruitloop pop from an oddball quintessentially English do-it-all artist

The quintessential Englishman Jim Noir, a word of mouth sensation last year for his three limited edition 7 inches, is about to hit the big-time. This oddball story started with his releasing three 7" singles in 2005 and winning notoriety everywhere whilst remaining a very elusive character. Well, he's now about to embark on a tour with a five-piece band and release the quirkily infectious single 'Key Of C' on My Dad recordings.

It's a funny song, a candy-coated melodious structure with electro backbeat, most reminiscent of The Flaming Lips later repertoire if of anyone. It's like an under-the-sea recital of some West Coast pop from the 60s, it's similar in many ways to the Ringo Starr penned 'Octopus's Garden', sugary and infectious, slightly sickening, slightly intoxicating.

B-sidewise, 'Hotsy Wa Wa Blues' is a bit like a reject from a Beck album, spruced up and made something quite individual by Jim Noir, yet the remix of 'Key Of C' leaves a lot to be desired, it's lengthy and avoidable, even it does display some interesting parts. Worthwhile getting to know Jim Noir I expect as he's most likely got something of a bright future dawning ahead of him, for however long it may last...
