Norway is cool. Fact.

Serena Maneesh is Emil Nikolaisen, (most of the other band members seem to have been begged, borrowed and maybe stolen from Toys R Us to record the album) and he (and the band) hails from Norway. (As an aside, I'm being sent rather a lot of material by Scandinavian bands at the moment...perhaps I pissed off the Editorial Team by saying that Def Leppard were shit. Well, they are - and I'm not going to change my mind. Get over it guys).

"Drain Cosmetics" is chock-full of invigoratingly complex drum rhythms, wonderfully distressed vocals and a production so thick, it makes you feel as if your head is slowly filling with treacle - though as I've currently got two perforated eardrums, maybe that's just me.

Serena Maneesh wear their influences on their sleeves - which include Primal Scream and The Jesus & Mary Chain (hey, get back here - that's a good thing) and capture the eccentric dystopian landscape of both effortlessly. The thundering guitars, scratchy, ethereal lyrics and warped samples construct a gloriously dreamlike state of confusion and just as you think you've begun to make sense of it all, it's over. Great fun.
