Same Same, But Different.

Living in a land of economic choice and freedom, there is a lot of scope for consumers to choose between products which don't differentiate much but maybe have different values and meanings to them.

There is probably no right or wrong in choosing between Pepsi or Coca-Cola, its merely taste and possible price which would shape a buyers mind. If these brands are unavailable, then any of the lesser cola brands are capable of doing a quick fill and can do the job of the bigger brands in the short term.

And finally getting to some sort of a musical point, this is how this reviewer feels about The Editors. As a band, there is nothing wrong with them. The guitar and bass lines kick in loud and early and hover about for the whole song. The vocals are strong, well delivered and mesh well with the music and the chorus has a sing-along factor to it.

So on the surface it's a decent song and the mark will probably reflect this but there is a feeling of what is the point to The Editors? They do not add anything new or interesting to a style of music that has been overused in recent years and when compared to a band like Interpol, come across as a very weak substitute.

For all the same, same but different feeling that exists around The Editors there clearly is a market for them as their growing fan base and live following indicates but the reasons for this may be attributable to the fact that they are available and are within reach for many of their audience as opposed to some of the other similar acts.

If you are already a fan of the Editors, you will know this track and no doubt love it as much as the rest of their singles. Anyone else may hear this song and write it off as sounding like any number of other bands and carry on with your life.

For once, both sets of consumers would be right. Long live the free market!
