Fractitious Female Rock
The Roger Sisters run a Brooklyn bar and are all instrumental whizzes; they firmly put the traditional image of the blonde dizzy bar girl to rest with their funky rock beats. 'Never Learn No Cry' builds up layers of buzzing bass on top of steady, deep percussion before the airy, reflective vocals take off with a disconnected female twang that resonates in your ears. There's a sense that the tune could turn into a stomping, thunderous affair as the guitar constantly threatens with a chugging rhythm and it almost does kick off seconds before the end, but that would simply be too clichéd for these girls.
'The Clock' is a busy indie disco affair with racy bass, scrambling guitars and simplistic, but frantic vocals, "The clock struck five, the clock struck six". It's definitely the more immediate of the tunes, but clearly The Roger Sisters don't want to be known for their more subtle and suspenseful A-side.
