Steady as she goes
After all the erroneous White Stripes comparisons I've been seeing in the music press concerning this band (yes they do have two members, yes they do play a stripped down version of the blues) it's rather surprising but pleasing nonetheless to realise that Two Gallants are actually closer in sound to those good time boys The Faces (on this single at any rate). Adam Stephens' throaty rasp raises this single above the usual humdrum bar room nonsense that passes for blues these days while Tyson Vogel adds nuanced back up (on the drums) to compliment the former's nifty finger picking guitar work on this insanely catchy number. "Dappens" (the flip-side of the 7" and one of two tracks on the CD version of this single) is an altogether more downbeat affair, a harmonica laced ballad it can't succeed in matching the panache of the lead track but that's not to say it's not worth a whopping six and a half minutes of your time. "Don't Want No Woman Who Stays Out All Night Long" is another impressive acoustic blues rocker that suggests The Gallants are most happy when they steer clear of lengthy introspection.
