Stop me if you've heard this one before
Alright, credit where it's due, what The Answer do they do very well. The only problem (and there's really no way of getting away from it) is that Led Zeppelin did it just as well, if not better, over 30 years ago!
Certainly a step up from the well meaning but already tired formula of the Darkness but there's absolutely nothing original about The Answer. The song itself is in the upbeat boogie style with token slide guitar and wailing classic rock vocals. All the required elements make an appearance at some point, the obligatory strutting chorus, the fancy fret work and there's probably the swish of some lengthy hair in there somewhere.
'Into the Gutter' is competently played and will no doubt fit in well on Planet Rock's play list for most of the next century. If classic rock is your bag then I suspect you've been crying out for a new hero for the last 25 years, The Answer may just be what you're looking for but don't expect anything groundbreaking or daring. For that kind of fun you may need to stray into Dragon Force territory!
