Sweet and Inoffensive

After the Christmas success of the charming 'JCB Song' most people had been waiting to see if Nizlopi were simply festive one hit wonders. 'Girls' proves this theory very much wrong; it may utilise the same saccharine acoustic guitars and pitter-pattering tambourine percussion, but the subject matter is grown-up enough to make this an earnest record. The austere double bass and searching, emotion-laden lyrics, "I tell you this old heart is covered in glue/I could never run back or forget you", certainly cement Nizlopi's reputation as more than just the writers of that cute Christmas gimmick track.

'Girls' is sweet, but pretty much unsurprising and not exactly the most memorable of tracks; in contrast to this 'Flooded Quarry' is full of buoyant scatty rhythm and based on a groovy human beatbox - doubters be silenced!

They're never going to kick any rock arse, but it's nice to have a pleasant breath of air in the charts sometimes and it's impossible for Nizlopi to offend, they merely delight with the childish simplicity and touching gentleness of their tunes.
