It's all going well for Death Cab for Cutie having been nominated for a Grammy and having just completed a sell out UK tour, they are due to embark on a US tour with Franz Ferdinand. 'Crooked Teeth' is taken from their recent album 'Plans' and features some nice extras such as a 'making of' film for 'Plans' and the video for the single.
'Crooked Teeth' is a light and summery affair but lacking in any real substance. It ambles along pleasantly through the verse with gentle vocals and the customary jangly guitars. The chorus promises to be huge but it just doesn't make it and that's what will probably stop this from being one of the bigger hits of the summer. A nice enough tune with rather traditional indie stylings I suspect it will serve the band fairly well, however this is a long way from being a classic.
Second track 'Talking Like Turnstiles' is a bit more noticeable with some edgy guitar but even that fails to raise it above 3 on the noiseometer. It is pretty catchy though and has more depth than the lead track, a quicker tempo helps it move along and as a non album track it should make the single worth buying for the average fan.
