P!NK Is Alive And Kicking
The fourth album from the self-styled wild woman of pop follows 2003's 'Try This'. This album is about continuing with her fusion of pop, rock and RnB, this release includes a song written by her father whilst stationed in Vietnam. Produced by Billy Mann (Anastacia), Butch Walker (Avril Lavigne) and Wu-Tang's RZA, among others. This album once again shows that Pink is pushing the envelope and expand her musical abilities, rather than stick with one tried and tested genre.
The great thing about this album is that we see how ambitious Pink really is, she is not afraid to experiment with the fusion of pop, rock and RnB, never an easy mix and usually to volatile to mix together. With political and social observations in the lyrics, Pink is moving from pop pap to music with meaning. This album has an unmistakable swagger about it, as if Pink is once again sticking two fingers up and saying screw you this is me, and my music, and that helps the album so much.
When Pink burst on the scene with 'Missundaztood', she really set down a marker of the style and enthusiasm that should could bring. She wasn't afraid to experiment, and that helped to sell over twelve million albums, her follow up 'Try This' fell a little flat compared to her first album. Well 'I'm Not Dead' will put Pink back where she belongs, back at the top.
From the outset of he album we see Pink laying into the stupid girls, you know the blonde famous types that carry their dogs around in handbags and call them silly names, the first single from the album 'Stupid Girls' lays heavily into them. The bitchy tone really is set when you hear 'U + Ur Hand', Pink at her best, queen of the put down. This can also be seen in 'Dear Mr President' when she states "You've come a long way from whiskey and cocaine!" oh never a truer word said! 'Conversations With My 13 Year Old Self' seems to be a continuation of a theme set out in 'Missundaztood', with 'Family Portrait'.
Nothing is out of place on this album, it is a carefully thought out fusion of pop, rock and RnB. Pink is like Madonna twenty years ago, not afraid to experiment and explore musical boundaries. There is only one disappointment with this album it finishes far to early! Pink is back and she is back kicking ass!
