Dripping In Angst And Contempt
Dripping in angst and contempt and with lyrics that snarl "you lying, trying waste of space", it's safe to say 'Song To Say Goodbye' is not going to be Placebo's summery cheer drenched festival anthem- far from it. This is a song to brood to, a song to vent your pent up rage to in the comfort of your own home; a song that further shows Placebo's ability to deliver the quality tracks they have always alluded to be capable of in the past.
'Song To Say Goodbye' is, according to Placebo front man Brian Molko, "about your friends who are making extremely bad lifestyle choices". Equipped with the hauntingly captivating vocals of Molko that simply ooze a sense of disgust as he spits out each line, 'Song To Say Goodbye' is lyric storytelling in its purest form. From the subdued start to the charging end, Placebo manage to lyrically create a picture board, telling Molko's tale with an added dose of venom and scorn that Placebo do so well. Forget the summer festival anthem, Placebo are here to remind us all of the reality of life after the festival's over.
