Wicked Goth Rock

Betty Curse maybe a teenager at the delicate age of 19, but her music is a little more than gimmicky throw away goth pop. Single 'Excuse All The Blood' based on Stephen King's 'Carrie' is rocking and addictive in all but the slightly insincere title; Betty's vocals and playful with a seductive tinge while the guitars back them up with a big brash cacophany. It's a real shame that Betty Curse is being marketed merely as a bleeding heart emo doll, "I enjoy loneliness...I like being submissive" says the calling card which comes with the CD; as the music displayed here is smart and catchy and shouldn't be just another fashion statement for teenagers who don't "fit in".

'Met On The Internet' is a lithe, electric rock number with the brawling guitar riffs and foxy solos of Motley Crue and other rampant rock wonders, which makes it equally sad to think that this music will go to waste on one subculture. Far from being "the real life incarnation of Emily Strange" as the press release suggests, Betty Curse produces fine sleazy, chugging rock music with an instant kick. With a Download slot already lined up, let's hope Betty's vicious rock sound comes out on top.
